What's Happening @ Harper

Harper Winter/Spring Chorus 2023

The Harper Chorus is a traditional choral experience using a wide variety of musical styles, from folk and classical to popular music. The students will learn to sing in unison and in parts while learning to work together as an ensemble. There will be opportunities throughout the year for solos and small group experiences. Members will study the fundamentals of singing, learn the language of choral music, and prepare for public performances.

Rehearsal Schedule

1. The Harper Chorus rehearses Tuesday (3rd and 4th graders) and Thursday mornings (2nd, 3rd and 4th graders) before school from 7:50-8:30am in the auditorium.  Our first winter rehearsal will start on Tuesday, January 24th, 2023 (3rd and 4th grade) and Thursday, January 26th, 2023 (2nd grade).

2. It is essential that students are on time for rehearsals, as the first 15 minutes are dedicated to warming up their voices and working on fundamentals.

3. Students are expected to sign in when they arrive.

Membership is open to students in grades 2, 3, and 4 at Harper School.  2nd graders will practice once a week on Tuesdays.  3rd and 4th graders will practice twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Please contact chorus@harperpto.com for any questions.

Fees:

2nd graders – $40.00

3rd and 4th graders – $60.00

Thornwood Stormwater Construction Project

This summer The Village of Wilmette has been working hard on the Thornwood Stormwater Project. HERE is a full informational handout that discuses the back to school plan and how it impacts Harper. A few highlights:

  • Sidewalks are open on Hunter Road
  • Greenwood Ave is the official walking route to get to Harper! All students coming from the East of Harper should use Greenwood Ave
  • Thornwood between Dartmouth and Hunter is closed to pedestrian and car traffic
  • No large trucks will be entering Thornwood Park during drop-off and pick-up
  • Crossing guard locations (Illinois and Iroquois, Lake and Hunter, Hunter and Greenwood, Greenwood and Dartmouth).  There will be construction flaggers at Thornwood and Dartmouth.
  • There will no longer be crossing guards at Elmwood and Dartmouth. All students should be walking to school via Greenwood.
  • Drivers (parents,  grandparents, babysitters, nannies, etc.) – PLEASE stay off your phone from the time you enter carline on Kenilworth until the time you’ve completed carline and are blocks passed the school.  Harper students and their families are walking to and from school.  Please show caution and yield to pedestrians.

** Reminder: to enter the carpool line, you must use Kenilworth Avenue
